For our own online store the discount ebook store we tried many different shopping cart software packages to get the balance of ease of use for our customers and hands off operation for us. Sadly choosing the right shopping cart software to sell digital products wasn’t as easy as we’d thought.

When it comes to choosing shopping cart software to run your online store there are a myriad of possible solutions.
All of the software we tried had good integration with most of the payment processors like Paypal, 2Checkout and Worldpay alongside many others. All of the carts would also save the buyers information for sending out offers after the first sale so follow up is an option. In fact the options were similar on most of the shopping cart software we tried.

 Running an online store with physical products can be handled by all the software we tried without too many problems, as you will be shipping out goods manually after you have made a sale. Selling digital products using shopping cart software is a whole different ball game however. Obviously we could use any of the shopping cart  software to sell digital products online, and deliver them manually when we were notified by the software or our payment processor of a sale, but that kind of defeats the object of selling digital products online.

To keep life simpler, you need the whole process from the buyer putting digital items in the cart to the product being delivered to be automatic. The whole point of selling digital products from your online store is that it saves you the bother of sending out links to download the file, or emailing attachments. So any shopping cart software you choose for your online store needs to carry out the task of delivering the digital products to the buyer without your intervention, and that’s where a lot of the shopping cart software falls down.

As we already said, all the software could sell the products and accept the payment, but when it came to delivery most of the shopping cart software would leave the customer with no idea of where their new purchase was. In the worst cases the shopping cart software would require us the seller to send a download link to the customer which would then leave our product download links open to the less scrupulous customer passing the link around for others to download it without paying, or move the digital products after each sale, not good at all.

Only slightly better was the shopping cart software which would give the customer a link inside their login area. In this case the link would usually be obfuscated and unique to the individual buyer. The downside was that after buying most of our customers wouldn’t go and log back in to find their downloads and we’d get support  requests or in some cases be accused of  taking money and not delivering. The worst cases we had the customer initiated complaints with our payment processors.

Finally we found shopping cart software which we could use to sell digital products which ticked all the right boxes. The shopping cart we use now integrates with our payment processor, it offers a cart which can hold multiple items and it delivers them automatically after payment as a download link. The shopping cart we chose also gives the buyer a login account which they can return to later and download the product again should they lose it on their hard drive after downloading.

Hopefully this gives you some idea of what you need to look for when you choose shopping cart software to sell digital products from your online store.

Customer service, how’s yours?This week I have dealt with some issues where I needed customer support, one was done through a high profile site with a full complement of staff on a help desk, the other was dealt with by a small online business owner, who answers his own support requests.

Which customer support issue do you think was handled the best?

Yep, the personal touch from the small business guy was to the point, helpful, and all my questions and issues were sorted swiftly, with a bit of personality thrown in.

In the case of the high profile site, one of their support staff must have half read my original complaint and sent a form reply to cover what they read. If they had read all of it, then they would have realised that the answer they gave was part of what I’d done, and pointed out in my original support request. On the second try, the same answer was given, to follow a series of steps, which for the second time I had re-iterated that was what I had done, but the problem had still arisen. Result I gave up on them.

The small business guy was actually sorting out the problem created by the big name super site, which they had failed to address, it took one email for him to see what had happened, and help me to put it right. He also pointed out that I wasn’t the only one with that issue, and nobody ever got a resolution through the big sites support staff.

I won’t name the big site, but they just asked me to complete their customer support satisfaction survey, and it was far from glowing with praise for their staff, and help system. As for the small site, it was The Unselfish Marketers Vault and The owner JayKay who offered his help. I have recommended this site before, and now my recommendation is even stronger, JayKay and The Vault rock, and it is the ONLY membership site you need for resale rights and even PLR products. It is the only site I am still paying monthly fees to.

Just one question, how is your customer support, are you getting it right?

Over the last few weeks I have taken a look at what I have laying on my hard drive and read some of the e-books I have bought.
You know what I found?
A lot of information I could be using to increase my profits almost instantly. But more than that, I realised that Mike Filsaimes report at the end of last year “The Death Of Internet Marketing” was spot on. We are all going in ever decreasing circles selling stuff to each other, until internet marketing implodes in on itself with a whimper. Mike done a great job of pointing it out, and even gave us all alternatives, and for free.
But what did all of us do about the free information Mike passed around?
Nothing.
We’re all still doing the same old thing, me included, we buy internet marketing products, with resale rights, and sell them to each other. We discover new ways of making sales online, and use them to sell even more to other internet marketers, and it goes round, and round, and round. I’ve seen a few of the smarter marketers opting out of this merry go round of selling to each other and instead look at other potential markets.
So I decided why not join them?
With that in mind I have taken some steps to use the knowledge I have of selling online to sell information products into other niche markets. You know I think it might be an easier sale in the long run, the general internet user who isn’t studying the sales techniques of others is less jaded, and may well respond more positively (ie spend) to the marketing tricks we have been mastering.
When someone is looking for information about healthy feeding of their baby, they won’t instantly recognise the selling technique of a squeeze page offering a free e-course about healthy baby food and a free e-book as a bonus for signing up. They will see an offer they need, and won’t be jaded enough to look for the catch like you or I my fellow internet marketing friend.
One of the other e-books I had laying around which helped me come to this decision was “5 Bucks A Day” which offers useful information and a plan to make one 5 buck a day project per week. It also contains some great ideas to get your 5 bucks a day projects started. 
And so I’ve started, I am setting up a few different sites in different ways to test what works best, spending a little time on each project and once I know what works, I will be using that as a template to setup multiple sites on multiple niches outside of internet marketing.

I have an interesting self improvement article to share with you it was

It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations).

What is this principle? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of
life is decided by how you react.

What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us.
We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving,
which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic.

We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine
the other 90%.

How? ……….Is by your reaction.

You cannot control a red light. but you can control your reaction. Don’t let
people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let’s use an example.

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup
of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just happened.
What happens next will be determined by how you react.

You curse.

You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down
in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for
placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle
follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find
your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for
school. She misses the bus.

Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your
daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30
mph speed limit.

After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school.
Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving
at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has
started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look
forward to coming home.

When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your
spouse and daughter.

Why? …. Because of how you reacted in the morning.

Why did you have a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?

B) Did your daughter cause it?

C) Did the policeman cause it?

D) Did you cause it?

The answer is “D”.

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in
those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day.

Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, “Its ok
honey, you just need to be more careful next time”. Grabbing a towel you rush
upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in
time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns
and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your
boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why?

Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was
determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something
negative about you, don’t be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on
glass. You don’t have to let the negative comment affect you!

React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in
losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper?
Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off) Do
you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them?

WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin
your drive?

Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.

You are told you lost your job.

Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy
and time into finding another job.

The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take
outpour frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what
is going on.

Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger. Why get stressed out?
It will just make things worse.

Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the
results. You will lose nothing if you try it. The 90-10 principle is
incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result?

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and
heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!!!

Has Internet Marketing Met Its Waterloo?

There’s been a lot of discussion of the death of internet
marketing in all its forms recently. Quite a few well known
marketers have jumped on the sensationalism which was
stirred up by “The Death Of Adsense”, and some of them
have put out their own “Death Of” reports. The one which
has stirred up most controversy, and also the most support
was Mike Filsaimes “The Death Of Internet Marketing”.

But here’s the thing, Some commentators have probably
never read it right through, if at all, and immediately
assumed the report was a marketing ploy, or a way of
keeping the smaller marketers nose out of the trough of
internet marketing. A few may have skimmed the report
before making any comments, and still managed to get the
wrong end of the stick where this report was concerned.

So what was the underlying message in “The Death Of
Internet Marketing”?

The real message given through this sensationally titled
report was that internet marketers should stop marketing
internet marketing products to each other. There is a
finite number of people to bu*y each new internet marketing
uber-program, only so many people interested in buying
information products telling them how to sell information
products. Inevitably this market is getting saturated. Each
new potential internet marketer is getting caught in the
trap of buying the information to become a better marketer
only to think they need to sell it on again, repackaged or
not.

To put it another way, all the internet marketers out there
need to start looking at selling to ordinary people
interested in something other than marketing. We all need
to look outside the IM community, and look wider, or
narrower maybe, and sell into other niche areas.

To put that into perspective for yourself, consider the
first thoughts you had about making money by selling
online. I found it interesting to recall, that when I
looked back on it my reason for being online was for
finding out more about classic gaming, American cars, and
some of my other interests. Even when I looked into making
money from the internet my first thoughts weren’t of
selling marketing information, but of selling how to’s for
repairing cars, or motorcycles. As soon as I bought some
info to learn internet marketing, I found myself in this
whirlwind of buying marketing products with resell rights
and selling them to other people who wanted to learn about
internet marketing, and my original ideas were lost in the
maddening merry go round of ever increasing ebooks, and
software to sell to other marketers.

Does this sound like your own situation?

If it does, you need to stop, and take stock of what
you’re doing. Stop trying to sell to a saturated market.
Re-discover your real reason for being online, go back to
the hobby, or research which sent you in the direction of
internet marketing, re-ignite your passion for whatever
that was, and start again there. Use all the skills, and
tools you have learned from internet marketing to create
and sell your own information products based around a
subject you already know, and enjoy.

It will be easier, the people looking for information about
old cars, flower arranging or any other of the millions of
hobbies people pursue, are not marketers, they aren’t
getting 319 marketers sending carbon copy emails to them
with information on how to repair the unobtainable part for
their 1936 Buick which you know only needs a sprocket from a
2001 Datsun to make it work again. The woman searching
Google right now for information on removing tough stains
from silk garments hasn’t had 237 emails today offering
her your grannys tried and tested method for removing
stains from delicate materials. She is looking for
information to save a priceless heirloom, she is willing to
bu*y it, and no one is offering it because you’re too busy
writing your next email to sell the latest resale rights
ebook on listbuilding and getting it sent to several
thousand people who have seen the same ebook given away by
Joe Bloggs on the latest JV giveaway site which is open for
just the next five days.

It’s great to discover the new techniques for marketing
your widget, but they work even better on subjects who
haven’t seen this method used by loads of other people
already. Non marketers are amazed by a website which uses a
name squeeze to place their name in the salesletter, while
the canny marketer blots that out as a gimmick he’s seen
too often already.

So has internet marketing met its waterloo?

That’s an emphatic NO. Internet marketing is alive and
well and living the high life. It’s just the internet
marketing niche which needs to be pruned back. All the
techniques still work, but selling marketing tricks is
dying. Let’s all let it rest and recuperate a little, and
look into our own areas of expertise and make extra money
from all the subjects we care about, instead of one we just
want to harvest for all we can. As for me, I’m going back
to look at classic gaming, American cars and classic
motorcycles and find out what someone else is willing to
pay me to learn about them.

On The Lighter Side

Once upon a time there lived a king. The King had a
beautiful daughter,
the Princess.

But the kingdom was a sad place.

There was no laughter, and no joy.

The problem was, that everything the Princess touched would
melt.

No matter what, metal, wood, plastic…anything she touched
would melt!!

Because of this, men were afraid of her.

The king despaired.

What could he do to help his beautiful daughter?

What an interesting week it has been for us here where money
was concerned. The most unusual thing to happen was when my
wife went to the bank to draw some money and phoned me to
say we had too much money. It was kind of difficult to make
the call to find out if it was a mistake somewhere in case
we had to give the money back! Even the woman on the banks
helpline found it amusing that someone phoned them to say
they had too much money. Luckily it was an expired
insurance policy we’d missed, and the insurance co had
paid us back over two years of our monthly payments. What a
great thing to happen while we are in christmas present

1) Offer a freebie to attract visitors to your site. Make
sure the freebie is related to the theme of your site, and
the affiliate product you are promoting. Even better if you
can also offer another FREE gift to anyone who tells their
friends about your site, this kind of viral marketing can
turn your site into a goldmine in just a few days.

2) Use a name squeeze page, so you can add your visitors
name to the webpage, and it becomes personal as if you are
talking directly to them. You can also capture other
information so you can send special offers, promotions and
remind them about your site regularly. This technique can
increase affiliate sales by leaps and bounds, especially if
used in conjunction with a FREE gift to exchange for the
visitors details.

3) Add a chat room or message board to your web site.
Having somewhere people can come and discuss their hobby,
or problems, with other likeminded members will keep them
coming back to your site to participate. Turning your
website into a themed portal with a messageboard and links
to other resources related to the affiliate products you
market will turn you into the expert, and your affiliate
marketing site into a useful resource.

4) Track and analyze all your promotional efforts. You will
be able to concentrate your time on the marketing strategies
which work, and drop any underperforming ones sooner. This
will mean you are not wasting time spinning your wheels
with something which is doomed to failure, and enable you
to use your time and resources to the maximum effect.

5) Make the most of every single visitor. Offer bribes in

Everybody is different, and offering a few alternative

affiliate products and links. An ebook is an ideal vehicle

are a plethora of places to buy private label rights books
or articles you can use as if you did write it yourself.
Place some links to your chosen products in an ebook on the
same subject as you are promoting for, and make sure to
prominently place your list signup link in there too. Give

away too.

9) Start a blog on blogger.com or as part of your website
and use this as a place to collate articles, stories etc.
with some connection to your chosen subject. Blog

sure each post carries a link to your affiliate products,
and try to incorporate your newsletter signup form in the
page too.

10) Practice good customer service - always. It’s easier
to sell a second time to someone who has had good service
from you. After you have given them a bonus for their
purchase, you can follow up with your happy customer, and
offer other offers they may find useful. It’s much easier
to keep a customer who trusts you than to get a new one.

Follow the preceding tips, and watch your affiliate
marketing soar to new heights of profit. Just one or two of
these can make the difference to your affiliate sales when

because a product has a lower gravity doesn’t mean it

have a huge launch with specially invited affiliates to make
tons of sales quickly. But after this has died down, the
product still sells, and is still a good product, but the
big push is gone. This means you can pick up your Clickbank
affiliate link and make sales of this product with less
competition. Even really low scoring clickbank products can
be worth looking into, as it may just be a case of a poorly
marketed product which you can capitalise on.

Clickbank is an ideal place to start looking for affiliate
products to promote, it’s quick, easy and you are relying
on an established company to pay you, not the seller.

the payments for the seller, so you are in safe hands all

Power Up Your Affiliate Marketing With Blogging

Blogs are a great way of making sales for an affiliate
marketing campaign. Since they appeared, blogs have all but
taken over from static websites of old, a regularly updated
blog with quality content is a veritable magnet for search
engines and visitors alike.

There are several blog scripts and services you can use as
an affiliate marketer, simplest would be to use Blogger.com
as it’s just a matter of signing up for an account and then
start posting. Our recommended blogging tool is Wordpress
installed on your own site. You should consider using
WordPress as it’s usually in the Fantastico link in your
webhosting cpanel so is very easy to install to your site
in just 3 clicks, giving you control over your own blog.
There are also plenty of themes available to change the
look of your vlog whether you use WordPress or Blogger.
It’s worth looking for a theme which ties in with your
affiliate products you will be advertising.

As an affiliate marketer, you have to love blogs for their
ease of updating, you can just copy and paste new content
into the form, hit submit and a new page appears in
seconds, all nicely formatted, linked and if you do it
right categorised. Adding blog content regularly is a lot
simpler than updating a static html website, and recoding
all the links manually to add your new page.Just type or
copy and paste your text, and click publish and it’s all
done for you.

But there’s more to it than the simple adition of content
to your blog, you can setup an affiliate product link in
the main site template, and that will be shown on every
page you create. As soon as you post you have effectively
created another link to your affiliate product and another
way for people to be drawn to the site to find it. If you
don’t feel like digging around the code to add your
affiliate link, you can always add it each time you post
(or a different affiliate product each time). Even better,
with the addition of some simple to install plugins your
blog can become a sales powerhouse, and even add Adsense
for a second source of income.

Even better for us affiliate marketers these plugins can be
found for fre*e online ready to download and install to your
blog. If you are using WordPress, then a plugin called “WP
Text Link Ads” is our FRE*E plugin of choice. Google for it,
install it following the instructions and then add keywords
and your affiliate links to associate with them. Every time
you post, your chosen keywords will become links to your
affiliate products automatically. Set it up with several
affiliate programs and as your blog traffic increases so
will your bottom line.

So you have your blog set up, and start posting, how do you
get the traffic flowing and get your affiliate links out
there?

In my own experience, I have found that “Pinging” your
blog posts very quickly starts the traffic flowing. Pinging
is just the term for letting other sites know your blog is
being updated. For ease and simplicity, I recommend using
Pingoat.com where you can put in your details of your blog
after you post, choose the services to ping, and click go.
Here’s the kicker, afterwards Pingoat will give you the
option to bookmark the url so you can ping your site by
using the pingoat link in your favourites. You could
automate this by adding this (very long) url to the
autoping section of your blog settings, but you’ll have to
work that out for yourself.

Once you start blogging and pinging your posts, the search
engines will find your blog, and as we stated from the
start search engines love blogs especially if they are
being updated regularly. This is great for your affiliate
marketing campaign as search engines bring the best kind of

How To Use “Viral Marketing” To Generate More Traffic

OK Dan, so what are you talking about, right?

I am talking about Viral Marketing. Viral marketing is
key to your business. It is a simple and effective
tool you can use to drive traffic to your site,
without spending thousands of dollars implementing
more expensive marketing tools.

How can you take advantage of viral marketing?

The easiest to make your visitors tell their friends
and relatives about your site is by implementing a
“tell-a-frien*d” script.

If done correctly, a “tell-a-frien*d” script is one of
the most powerful traffic-generation strategies you’ll
ever use. And it’s FRE*E!

Here’s how it works…

You ask your visitors to enter the name and e-mail
address of friends and relatives they think will be
interested in your site. Then, the script
automatically sends a personalized e-mail promotion
your site to all their friends from the visitor.

Now how are you going to get your visitors to enter
the names of their friends and relatives that may have
an interest in your site? Simple… Give them an
incentive. Make them an offer. Tell them WHY they
